Ilber Kemal oglu Ortaylı

The President of the Turan Balabilgə Academy, Şəmil Sadiq, and the founding members of the academy have issued an obituary on the passing of İlber Ortaylı.

The obituary states:

“We received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Professor İlber Ortaylı, a distinguished historian whose profound scholarly thinking and broad worldview made significant contributions to the scientific and social life of the Turkic world.

Having devoted his life to the development of historical science, the enlightenment of younger generations, and the preservation of the shared historical memory of the Turkic world, İlber Ortaylı was one of the great scholars who will be remembered with respect and honor not only in Turkey but throughout the entire Turkic world. As an honorary member of the Turan Balabilgə Academy, his scholarly authority and moral support were of great value to our academy.

His rich scientific legacy, deep analyses, and valuable advice given to society will continue to guide scholars, researchers, and readers for many years.

On the occasion of this heavy loss, we express our deepest condolences to the family, relatives, colleagues of the deceased, and to the entire Turkic world, and wish them patience and strength. His dear and bright memory will always live in our hearts.”
